With this UC it is intended that students learn to use commercial process simulators like Aspen HYSYS, Aspen One or Aspen Batch for the simulation of chemical and biological processes. The use of these tools will allow the students to develop knowledge about the operation of several unit operations present in the processes and also to understand the interconnection between the different unit operations and the implications of the operation of each of them in the performance of the whole process. Issues related to process optimization will also be addressed, with particular emphasis on the energy part. The principles of dynamic simulation will also be addressed.
At the conclusion of this unit students should be able to simulate chemical and biological processes with a critical sense regarding the results obtained. They should also be able to use these tools to analyze existing processes in order to study possible changes to them in order to improve.
